Indigenous is an insisting and flashing rhythm in two acts, an incantation, a primitive fever, a moment of ecstasy. Three performers move through an unearthly empty, gloomy club space, a darkness traversed by lurid beams of light. Two live musicians accompany them with rhythmically pulsing music. The athletic gestures and ecstatic dances symbolize the denseness and incantatory character of the music and create a mythic aura before they dissolve into geometric forms. Indigenous grips its audience with gloom, tension and magic and strives to make the genuine visible through its distortion.

BAROKTHEGREAT
BAROKTHEGREAT operates within the vast range of the performing arts in national and international contexts with the support of structures that promote new languages. Founded in 2008 by musician Leila Gharib and dancer-choreographer Sonia Brunelli, the group works with a particular focus on the mental roots of movement, the physicality and ritual function of music and the architecture of space as an inhabitable device. From 2012, BAROKTHEGREAT proposes a “Expressive Gym” born to experience an workout with young people interested in movement as a form of expression in the city of Verona, where the group is currently based.
